Second only to bisects, the role volume plays in the trade-- and seeking methods that reveal tradable volume information-- has captured my imagination. A grounding in Richard Wyckoff's methods is essential as it provides a framework for understanding the mechanics of demand and supply, of action-reaction. Wyckoff's three basic tenets are presented below. There are a number of books elaborating Wyckoff's ideas with "The Day Trader's Bible" being widely available on the internet. Wyckoff was a famed "tape reader" and wrote a number of articles and books under the pseudonym "Rollo Tape". Get it? Roll o' Tape? Argh!
These articles, like the others, are not meant to be all encompassing, but rather a sort of bread crumb trail of my interests.
- Wyckoff's Three Tenets: Essential for any trader incorporating volume in his approach
- EquiVolume: An introduction to Richard Arm's "volume bar" concept and some examples
- EVRAA: Eustace Volume, Reinvented by Alan Robinson & Ana Maria Gallo
- Volume Bars: What they are and a way to determine what size to use
- VolSum: Volume Summation (revamped to collect all three VolSum Display types as templates)
- VolSum with Price Exhaustion and VolShift: For archival purposes only. Please see VolSum article above for VolSum discussion)
Important Notice!
As of the December 2007 Ensign software release, the introduction of new variables in DYOS functions has caused codes and templates using the prior release to to no longer work as intended. A user has kindly informed me that VolSum, EVRAA, and VolShift in particular no longer work correctly. Unfortunately, I cannot at this time fix the codes but will remove this notice when they are fixed. My sincere regrets!
