here's a cool chart
dave, a long-time trading aquaintance, has thoughtfully sent along a new kind of animated GIF: a trading chart! It was posted over at
dacharts by "av" and created using the
free Microsoft GIF Animator software. Thanks, dave!

Chart Art
Chart Art, or chArt as coined by TOC (tradingoncoffee in Echat), evolved in March 2005 when christophe, another Echat member, posted a wildly imaginative variation of an MA ribbon.
Something wonderful must have been in the air as an explosion of variations on this theme materialized over the next few days.
Here is a slide show of my chart art from that time. Howard collected a number of chArt examples on
this page, and for more, try the charts labelled with
TOC_xx.png on 24 Mar 2005, the ones with "large" next to them in particular.
ed: Just in case it isn't obvious-- these Charts have nothing to do with *trading*. They are imaginative designs using charts, studies, and of course, price bars, as "paint" on the chart "canvas".

No need to stock up too many canned goods and batteries...
The End of Times is still a ways to go, so crashistas, uber bears, and other armegeddonists can breath a sigh of relief.
The Mayans believed at at the conclusion of each pictun cycle of about 7,885 years the universe is destroyed and re-created. Those with apocalyptic inclinations will be relieved to observe that the present cycle will not end until Columbus Day, October 12, 4772 in the Gregorian calendar.

Acid Archives
"Legendary LP of twisted folkpsych/ singer-songwriter crossover, like a Tim Hardin from hell. He has a great beatnik voice and plays acoustic guitar like noone before or since, the instrumental tracks are more psychedelic than ten layers of Sgt Pepper tape loops." [more]
What's this doing on the trading page, anyway?? Let me tell you.
Perry Leopold is also a trader, programmer, and all-round modern Renaissance type guy who just so happens to run the Crystal Ball trading chat site (a link I have to the left). Besides having an uber-kewl past as a muscian, his talents in the cyber world have deep roots, as founder of The PAN Network, which is the world's oldest continuously operating online service. PAN was the world's first online service for the music industry, the world's first vertical network, and the world's first global B2B network. NetMusic recently announced plans to acquire PAN.
Way to Go, Perry!

a poet's take on the stock market
It was one of those freaky web things...searching for one thing I found another-- a cache of
Oscar Wilde on the spooz, remote viewing, and the stock market

-- It is better to have a permanent income than to be fascinating.
-- Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes
- ON REMOTE VIEWING, CONSPIRACIES, ETC
-- Of course America had often been discovered before Columbus, but it had always been hushed up.
-- I can believe anything as long as it is incredible.
-- We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. -- It is very vulgar to talk about one's business. Only people like stockbrokers do that, and then merely at dinner parties.
-- One should always play fairly when one has the winning cards.
Have a good weekend!

Stock Market Historical Timeline
Motivated by a question from a reader, I've been doing volume studies and being the weekend, got sidetracked and meandered back in time to the early 90s. I noticed a rather abrupt step up in OBV on the COMPX in Oct 92 and wondered if there was an "event" that pushed players into tech.
While I haven't quite found "an answer"-- lol, like there is simple one answer-- I did revisit
NYSE Historical Time Line and thought readers of this blog might enjoy the perspective.
Won't make you money tomorrow, but it's like the zest of a lemon, adds a pleasant touch to the business we are in.
