The Save As Dialog

It turns out that there are more than a few dialog box types that can open up when doing a "Save As". This can be for many reasons: Browser type, version type, personal preferences, etc.

The bottom line: the file must be saved as an .spt file for Ensign to recognize it.

The ESPL Editor window will not recognize any other extension (ie, .txt, .htm, .doc, etc etc)

Download the ESPL file

ESPL: Right click and Save to your  Ensign/ESPL folder, keep same name).

Save as Type: All Files

This is what most people using IE should get and use. You must navigate to the Ensign/ESPL folder as shown below, to the right of the "Save in:" line near the top. You must select "All Files" as shown in the "Save as type:" line near the bottom. Read on if that is not an available option.

Text Document

You might get only one option: Text Document. If that is the case, go ahead and click Save.

IE may append .txt to the file name. It it does, you must then rename the file:

  1. Open Ensign ESPL Folder
  2. Find the file AlanBoxMay22B.spt.txt
  3. Right Click and Select Rename
  4. Edit out the .txt so the file is now named AlanBoxMay20.spt

Note: In the latest Firefox browser, I only got a "Text document" option, but the file saved without having attached a .txt extension. However, please check the file extension if you still do not see the file in the Editor.

Other options

Wing got this dialog box, to save as a Web Page. If you get something like this dialog, at the bottom of the list is the option Text File (*.txt). Select this and rename as above in the Text Document instructions.
